Overview
HelpUsRise.org, is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) corporation. Our mission is to operate two Homeless Assistance Centers and to raise the private funding necessary to assist in the implementation of the East New York Community Homeless Plan. HelpUsRise.org for Homeless is further committed to assisting the Kings County Homeless Trust in this implementation through encouraging private sector involvement.
HelpUsRise.org for Homeless grew out of the grave concern local citizens and politicians had about the growing problem of homelessness. Former Governor David Patterson announced that nearly $25 million has been awarded to fund homeless housing projects and related support services throughout the State. Six organizations will share in the funding that will support the creation of more than 500 housing units. The Governor’s Commission on Homeless developed a strategic plan to serve the homeless. This plan called for a joint public–private sector partnership to respond to the growing problem of homelessness within Kings County. HelpUsRise.org for Homeless serves as the private sector partner and the Kings County Homeless Trust is the public partner.
The capital and operational needs of HelpUsRise.org are funded largely by the one percent sales tax on food and beverages at certain restaurants in Kings County. Charitable foundations, corporations, and individuals provide the remainder of the financial needs of HelpUsRise.org for Homeless.
Currently, HelpUsRise.org for Homeless operates three Homeless Assistance Centers – The Sunrise Centers in East New York Brooklyn, NY, Los Angles. CA and the Las Vegas, NV.
The accomplishments of HelpUsRise.org for Homeless have been exceptional; however, due to ongoing severe federal, state and city economic deficits our success has been limited by a shortage of donations from businesses and the general public.
Since opening our doors in 2007, 61.82% of our former residents have successfully moved off the streets of Kings County, Los Angles & Las Vegas and they on their way to attaining greater stability and self-sufficiency. Clearly, the greatest accomplishment; however, is the difference being made in the lives of the homeless from within our community. Your support by donations and/or your continued support by donations shall be greatly appreciated and it shall assist us in our mission to provide homeless services as needed.
